Beginner

Our entry-level cutting garden is designed for a 4 by 4 foot space, focusing on growing plants from seeds. It’s a simple yet fulfilling way to start your gardening journey.

1) Clear Area from debris, grass, sticks and rocks…

If this is a new location:

  • Turn the soil
  • Add enhancements to the soil like Coast of Maine Lobster Compost and Espoma Flower-tone

2)  Level the ground with a rake…

Mix in 2 bags of Coast of Maine Compost Blend enriched with lobster and crab for optimal soil health and fertility.

The Fun Part!

3) Picking our your seeds. Select flower varieties that share similar light needs, as most cut flowers thrive with 6-8 hours of sunlight daily!

You’ll need 16sq ft of seeds. About 5 to 6 small packets of seeds. OR Grab ONE of our Flower Mixes by Botanical Interests: Bring Home the Butterflies, Hummingbird Haven, Cut & Come Zinnias or Songbird Delight.

4) Spread seeds uniformly across a newly raked area.

5) Gently spread 2 bags of Coast Of Maine Topsoil over the newly sown seeds for adequate coverage. Lightly press down.

6) Apply a thin layer of 2 bags of Coast of Maine Enriching Mulch to effectively retain moisture and suppress weed growth.

7) Water Thoroughly. Make sure to water the plants regularly, typically once a day, to keep the soil consistently moist without letting it dry out until the seeds germinte.
